As part of the Ground Floor Restructuring this summer, short loan items are currently being moved onto the main shelves. If you are having difficulty finding particular items please ask a member of staff, as there are a number of ongoing projects which are requiring stock to be moved.
When borrowing items, please ensure you are aware of the loan period and that it fits your requirements.
The first stage of our Ground Floor refurbishment is now complete, with the successful installation of the new Welcome Desk, and the reintroduction of our main access route. Later in August we will be installing a new Help Desk, until then services will be based at the Welcome Desk.
To help reduce queues and provide a faster turn-round, please use the self issue machines to issue or renew books – if you’re not sure how to use these please ask a member of staff.
If you’re around the Library today, you’ll notice something is missing. Our old Help Desk was removed last night, as shown in the photos. There will be more work over the weekend to complete the installation of our new Welcome Desk, and from Monday access will resume through the main Library entrance.
During August work will move onto the creation of our new Help Desk, and until then desk services will be based on the Welcome Desk. To help reduce queues during this time, please use the self service issue machines to issue your books whenever possible.
Las weekend work started on the Ground Floor as part of our summer transformation. The first stage of this has been to close off the existing reception and Help Desk so that the site can be cleared ready for the installation of the new Welcome Desk. As a result, access to the Library is currently being re-routed through the back of the current Help Desk – from outside the building we may appear to be closed, but please be assured that it’s business as usual. This route is likely to be in place until the end of July.
The photos below show the start of the screening work, and also the answer to our long-standing question of ‘What’s inside that huge block that separates the turnstiles?’ (Nothing, it’s just a box).
This summer the Ground Floor of the Library is undergoing a major facelift. We’re fitting new service desks, a new welcome area, and installing new self service options. In addition to building work which is already underway on floors 2 and 3, work will start on the ground floor this weekend.
Work is currently scheduled until the end of August, and we will issue regular updates via the Library website and our Facebook page. The Library will remain open cross the summer, but it is likely that there will be occasional changes to service availability or to access routes at short notice. Please bear with us while this work is completed, and accept our apologies for any inconvenience.
If you’ve become a regular visitor to the Brunel Library blog since it launched some months back, thank you. Over the new few weeks we’re going to be launching an updated version, with a new address, a new look, and more content.
